Bride's details while sitting down

Garrett & Leah

Fern Hill Weddings

Trying to make plans this year has been incredibly challenging. Fortunately, Garrett & Leah were already planning an intimate ceremony. That was to be followed by a reception later that day with a larger crowd. So although the larger celebration didn’t happen this time around we are already planning the party for next year!!

At their originally planned venue, Fern Hill at the McCann School of Art, Garrett and Leah had the sweetest wedding ceremony under old-growth trees next to a creek….ah perfection!!! With smiles and tears all around they read personal statements and original vows to each other. And that’s what it’s all about!! Getting married and promising forever to each other is the focus here in 2020. How it looks might be entirely different than our plans and ideas.

Megan from B Events designed this micro wedding reception according to Leah’s taste and it’s so elegant! A top the tables we loved the antique vases with some of our favorite types of flowers from Avant Garden and hand-dyed napkins to finish (Megan can really do it all). The torn edge place-cards were beautiful written by Sydney Beth Designs…now you’re speaking my love language!

Snippets from Leah-

How did you meet?

We met at recess in middle school and have been close friends ever since. He even played in his “band” at my 13th birthday party haha.

Why did you choose your ceremony venue?

We chose the venue because we love the outdoors. Our favorite activity is hiking and camping together. We stayed in a cabin by the stream the night before the wedding and slept in a tent on Saturday night. 🙂

Did families and friends travel to be with you for your wedding day?

Some traveled a bit but most people who would have traveled did not attend due to the circumstances. Our friend’s mom told us that her and her partner have been waiting 29 years to celebrate their wedding but that perhaps that is the secret of a life-long partnership; always believing the best is yet to come!

What did the Groomsmen do before getting ready?

Unfortunately, they couldn’t be there. We spent the morning together sipping coffee by the stream before Garrett went on a bike ride in the woods and then played the guitar with his best man.

What do you remember from the moments right before you walked down the aisle or waited for her to arrive? Or just a favorite ceremony moment?

Our favorite ceremony moments were hearing what we had written to each other and the moment of silence. I remember taking a deep breath and closing my eyes to pause after all of the stress from the pandemic leading up to the wedding and feeling the sun/listening to the stream and the birds, and finally feeling at peace. Also, my best friend since the age of 14 gave us her father’s Martin guitar the night before the ceremony and his best friend played Here Comes the Sun while I walked down the aisle. He was like a second father to Garrett and I but sadly passed away suddenly a few years ago… so hearing his guitar again while I walked down the aisle made it feel like he was with us.

Where did you purchase your dress?

I got it online two weeks before the wedding haha! I don’t know the designer because it was just a dress from Lulus. Edited to add – because of the virus- her original dress was stuck in transit or a shop in Pittsburgh, we really don’t know.

What was your favorite part of the day?

Relaxing at the campfire at the end of the day

Now that the planning is over- what advice would you share with a couple currently planning?

Try not to get caught up in the small things like napkin colors, chairs, and flowers. Also, plan a day that is meaningful to you and don’t let others sway your decisions. You never know what might happen! After we were stripped of everything that didn’t matter, we were left with all that did…each other. Focus on that.
